2026 8th International Conference on Optoelectronic Science and Materials (ICOSM 2026)

was successfully held in Jinan, China from September 4 to 6, 2026! 


This conference was organized by the Shandong Society of Optical Engineering and co-organized by the School of Photonics and Optical Engineering and the School of Electronics and Integrated Circuits at the University of Aerospace Information, as well as the State Key Laboratory of Scattering and Radiation and the Shandong Provincial Key Laboratory of Intelligent Photonic Transmission and Sensing. The conference brought together experts and scholars from numerous renowned universities and research institutions, including Peking University, Fudan University, the University of Science and Technology of China, and the Chinese Academy of Sciences. Participants engaged in in-depth exchanges and discussions on cutting-edge issues in optoelectronic science and intelligent sensing technology, establishing a high-level platform to advance technological innovation and interdisciplinary integration in the field of optoelectronics.

The opening ceremony was presided over by Professor Zhang Ze, Dean of the School of Photonics and Optical Engineering at the University of Aerospace Information. Academicians Wu Yirong and Yao Jianquan of the Chinese Academy of Sciences delivered opening remarks. Zhang Yingjie, Deputy Secretary of the Provisional Party Committee of the University of Aerospace Information (in preparation), delivered a speech on behalf of the university.

A total of five renowned experts in the field of optoelectronics were invited to deliver keynote presentations at this conference. Zhou Lei, a professor at Fudan University, delivered a presentation titled “Light Field Control via Metasurfaces: From Interface Phase to Planar Optics,” in which he systematically reviewed the development of metasurfaces from the proposal of their fundamental principles to their establishment in the field of planar optics. Chen Jingbiao, a professor at Peking University, delivered a presentation titled “Technology and Applications of Instruments for Precision Quantum Frequency Measurement,” in which he provided an in-depth analysis of the challenges associated with traditional frequency stabilization technologies; Zhu Jingguo, a researcher at the Institute of Microelectronics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, delivered a presentation titled “Current Status and Trends in Single-Photon Lidar Technology,” introducing typical applications of single-photon lidar in fields such as remote sensing and mapping, as well as autonomous driving; Professor Shi Baosen from the University of Science and Technology of China focused on “Mid-Infrared Information Sensing Enabled by Spectrum-Shifting Technology,” elucidating the working principles of spectrum-shifting detection technology; Professor Dong Xinghui from Ocean University of China, speaking on “Intelligent Perception and Processing of Underwater Visual Information,” systematically introduced his team’s research progress and application achievements in underwater image enhancement, target detection, and intelligent recognition, addressing practical challenges such as poor imaging quality and difficulties in data acquisition in underwater environments.

An awards ceremony was held during the conference, at which the organizing committee recognized outstanding papers and posters presented at this year’s event, encouraging researchers to continue delving deeply into their respective fields, embrace innovation, and actively pursue new discoveries.

This conference featured three thematic sub-forums, each focusing on “Advanced Optoelectronic Technologies,” “Optoelectronic Instruments and Devices,” and “Integrated Photonics and Intelligent Sensing.” More than 30 experts and scholars from universities including Fudan University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Zhejiang University, Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, the University of Science and Technology of China, and Beijing Normal University delivered invited and oral presentations. The content covered multiple subfields such as quantum detection, metasurface devices, integrated optical computing, and smart sensing, fully demonstrating the interdisciplinary nature and innovative vitality of the optoelectronics field.

As a key component of this conference, the annual academic conference of the Shandong Provincial Key Laboratory of Intelligent Photonic Transmission and Sensing was held concurrently on the afternoon of September 5. The attending experts engaged in in-depth discussions on the laboratory’s research directions, the development of research platforms, talent cultivation, and major research achievements, offering guidance on the laboratory’s high-quality development. Subsequently, the experts, along with participating faculty and students, visited the Key Laboratory at the School of Photonics and Optical Engineering of the University of Aerospace Information for an on-site tour and research visit.

The successful convening of this conference provided a systematic overview of the latest developments and key challenges in the field of optoelectronic science and materials, and further strengthened academic ties and the willingness to collaborate among major domestic universities, research institutions, and industry enterprises. Moving forward, all participating parties will use this conference as an opportunity to continue promoting the deep integration and collaborative innovation of optoelectronic technology with fields such as intelligent sensing and aerospace information, thereby contributing to the high-quality development and technological self-reliance of China’s optoelectronic sector.
